Custom Stackable Birthstone Rings

Today, we're sharing the story behind these absolutely stunning stack-able gemstone rings.

Justin, our custom jewelry designer, created these beautiful tri-colored gold and gemstone rings for his wife, Melissa.

The gemstones were chosen to represent the birthstones of Melissa and their two kids, Finley and Pearl.

He paired rose gold with the bright Pink Tourmaline for Pearl's October birthday. The yellow gold ring holds a stunning Alexandrite, representing Fin's June birthday. Finally, the middle ring was made in white gold to accentuate the brilliant blue color of the Montana Sapphire that represents Melissa's September birthday.
 

Montana Sapphires (often known as Yogo Sapphires) are said to be the most precious gemstone ever discovered in the United States because of their beautiful blue color, clarity and overall quality.

These gems were discovered by accident in the mid 1800's during the gold rush. Gold miners were inconvenienced by these little blue pebbles clogging up their sifters.

in 1895, Jake Hoover discovered gold in the mountains of Montana. He, along with two partners, formed a mining company. They didn't find much gold but they did find a lot of pretty blue rocks and Hoover began to collect them.

He sent his cigar box full of the mystery stones to Tiffany & Co. in New York for identification and value. Dr. George F. Kuntz, the leading gem expert in America at the time, identified them as excellent quality natural sapphires. He deemed them "the finest precious gemstones ever found in the United States."

Tiffany & Co. purchased the very first Montana Sapphires ever discovered.

The mines have changed ownership many times over the past 100+ years but what hasn't changed is the desire for the Montana Sapphire.
