Fred began working in the jewelry industry at the age of 12. With diamond and colored stone certifications, Fred has been the head bench jeweler for over 35 years. He is the 2nd generation of Burkes and has led his store and community to amazing heights. Fred served as a President of the Chamber of Commerce, a board member for the Kilmarnock Museum and Downtown Kilmarnock Design Committee, and a Deacon at his church. Fred sets the standard for business and community leadership. He enjoys returning priceless pieces back to their original beauty and spending quality time with his family.
Owner and Designer
Karen has been married to the love of her life, Fred, since 1988. She is a Virginia native that followed her father’s footsteps into sales. Her passion is making others happy; and beautiful jewelry does just that! The Burkes family has grown, so, the most treasured moments are now made with her grandchildren, Fin and Pearl. Yet, a beloved pastime continues to be singing in her Praise and Worship band.
“One of my favorite things is creating an original piece for clients from treasures of their past: making something new and wonderful!” -Karen Burke
Justin is an artist and our resident third generation Burke. He is always thinking of the next big idea. A graphic designer, he enjoys creating the iconic billboards for our beautiful jewelry. Yet, his passion is ignited when designing one-of-a-kind jewelry that his customers will share for generations. Justin tours with his bluegrass band “JJ & Co.” He performs original songs in cities across the country, but always has his mind on The Northern Neck.
Jeweler and Designer
Melissa is a Bench Jeweler and Designer. She loves to create the next original line. Her first, “Bay Gems”, has been a local favorite! As a bench jeweler, Melissa can restore, redo and renew your jewelry. She loves seeing the smiles of happy customers, when her hard work comes to life. She loves spending time with her family and living on the waters of The Chesapeake Bay.
Jameson loves finding the perfect piece of jewelry or gift for his customers while providing a friendly, “hometown” shopping experience. He has a very good eye for detail and thrives on building a relationship with his customers. When he is not on the sales floor, Jameson is always staying busy: either training and riding horses, or, hanging out with his dog, Beau, and nephew, Jamie.
Repair and Service Specialist
Troy is a familiar face in our community. He has over 20 years of sales and customer service experience. Troy manages all repair and service requests, appraisals & inspections. His attention to detail is impeccable and his loyalty and dependability makes him the perfect fit for his position. When he’s not at Burkes, you can find him: riding in his Jeep, listening to U2, cooking on the grill and hanging out with his wife, Shelli, and their dogs, Alpine & Lady Bug.
Sarah Beth Pittman
Inventory and Systems Specialist
Sarah Beth maintains our inventory. Without her, we would be lost. She is always laughing and taking care of the three men in her life: Rob, Porter and Nolan Pittman. The Pittman family has just settled into life at the River: moving from Charleston, SC last year. Coincidentally, Sarah Beth was born and raised in Altavista, VA, just like Karen! When Sarah Beth is not keeping everything in order at Burkes, she enjoys reading and spending time with her family.
Jewelery Concierge Specialist
Born and raised on the Rappahannock River, it didn’t take long for this prodigal daughter of the Northern Neck to return. Even though the beauty of California and the Pacific Ocean were captivating, Kati and her husband, Devin Rose, were drawn back to the soothing rhythm of their native waters. The choice to raise their own family on the Rappahannock was an easy one. Similarly, the choice to join Burke’s was easy. Here, Kati will have the chance to combine two things she loves: hospitality and jewelry. She’s hoping to make your next visit to Burkes effortless and, above all, enjoyable!
Marketing & Social Media Specialist
Alison is our Social Media and Marketing Specialist. She is a 2012 graduate of Lancaster High School, who recently received her Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing from Virginia Commonwealth University. She was born and raised in Lancaster County and is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas R. Davis of Lancaster. Alison currently resides in Kilmarnock and in her spare time enjoys spending time on the water and being with friends and family.

Whitney enjoys working with her clients to find or create the perfect piece of jewelry for their loved one and specializes in custom engagement and bridal jewelry. When she’s not playing Cupid at Burkes, Whitney enjoys nature hikes with her family, beachcombing for treasures, metal detecting and reading.
Micaela is a NNK native, daughter of Dannie and Kim Pittman, and a part time sales associate at Burkes: currently, enjoying her senior year at Longwood University. She is majoring in Liberal Studies with a minor in Psychology. Micaela continues to join us during her college breaks, and, we are lucky to have her spunk and tenacity. While she isn’t at school or here at work she enjoys playing with her dog, Koda, and going to the beach! Micaela definitely is a people person and looks forward to meeting and working with the wonderful clients here at Burkes.

Currently, she is a junior at Northumberland High School, a member of several clubs: as well as, an active member of the Coan Baptist Youth Group and the Northumberland High Varsity Softball team. Morgan is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Keith Wilson of Heathsville. “We’re happy to add Morgan to our team of hometown professionals.
